According to the Local Government Association (LGA) has announced that up to 200,000 homes could struggle to get flood risk insurance in 2013.
With seemingly no further progress towards renewal of the flood insurance statement of principles, the LGA are implying that areas of the country will become uninsurable in the future; I think this sort of scaremongering is counter-productive at this time.
Yes, the insurance industry has to step up to the plate and ensure the property owning population is treated fairly, but more importantly the government and LGA members must invest in more flood defenses, and come stop developing in high flood risk areas – this practice in particular is total madness.
I think we will see all sides to this agreement take it to the deadline before committing, but in the meantime for all of those home owners in a flood risk areas, or is an area at risk, you need specialist Flood Risk Insurance.
